Troubleshooting Your Outlook / Hotmail Sending email Problems

Is your current Outbox increasing faster than your Inbox? Does Outlook Express get you despair with error messages like "Message could not be opened from Outbox folder ." & "Some errors occurred although processing the requested tasks ."? Does Outlook Express send several copies of outgoing emails?

A lot of a configuration misstep "like an interface change forced by your email provider that wasn't confirmed to you" and Outlook Express issues "like a corrupted Outbox folder" might halt your outgoing mail.

Troubleshooting Your Outlook or Hotmail Sending email Problems

  • Identify & Fix Problems Sending Mail in Outlook

Luckily, there are multiple things you can try to remedy the situation & finally start sending email again.

  • Check Your own Outgoing Mail Server Settings

1.vigate to Tools > Accounts... from the menu.
2. Highlight the desired account & click Properties.
3.Make sure the Right server name is entered under Outgoing mail (SMTP): on the Servers tab.
4.On the similar tab, verify My server needs authentication is checked if needed. Under Settings . . . , you can indicate a username & password different from your incoming e-mail credentials. On the Advanced tab, make sure that This server requires a secure connection ( SSL ) is checked under Outgoing mailbox ( SMTP ): if your outgoing mail connectivity must be encrypted.
5. Check the port under Outgoing mail (SMTP):, too. Typical ports include 25 & 465.

  • EnSure Your "Sent Items" Folder Isn't Too Large

The folder can hold 2 GB at most. To check the size, go to your Outlook Express store folder & examine the Sent Items.dbx file size.
Move messages from the Sent Items folder in Outlook Express to another folder. Make separate folders for separate things, such as one for all mail sent out over the course of a year.
  •  Ensure you compact folders manually after moving messages.

Rename a Corrupt "Outbox.dbx" File

1. With Outlook Express closed, open your Outlook Express store folder in Windows Explorer & rename the Outbox.dbx file to Outlook.old.
2. Note that you can no longer access any messages in your "old" Outbox folder.
3. If the renaming has fixed your sent problems, you can delete the Outbox.old file.
If nothing helps, you can have Outlook Express create an SMTP log file to find out more about what's going on behind the scenes.
